Analytical IT Solutions to Increase Production Efficiency and Quality

In industrial environments the processes and devices include numerous computer and electronic systems, which acquire and archive large amounts of data. What purpose does this data serve? Can a comprehensive analysis of this data optimize processes or even improve them?

Managing efficiency of the production process provides companies with the option of almost immediate cost savings per product unit. A careful analysis according to the globally accepted method of measuring the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) helps to identify the locations of losses in the production process due to downtime, reduced speed and rejected products. Investments into such a solution in the light of an adequate implementation and use are typically paid-off in a period between 6 – 12 months. The information system for continuous measurement of efficiency and in-depth analysis of reasons is very important in this respect, however it is by far not enough for an overall success. Quite important is also in-depth knowledge of the production process and methodology of managing efficiency and successful implementation of the solution at the client’s site

Apart from the so-called IT solution for supporting effectiveness management Metronik in cooperation with experts from research institutions has developed approaches for off-line analysis of data regarding the measured effectiveness and what-if simulation of various scenarios of the production process organisation. This way companies are provided with a very precise response to the question what potential savings can be generated for example by reengineering of work orders or packing process. Experience has shown that preliminary simulation is much more cost effective compared to the process of implementing actual changes. Metronik’s consultants have extensive expertise in the field of effectiveness, which is proven by numerous successful reference sites where the investments have paid off very quickly.

Metronik’s quality management solutions analyze process data from the aspect of quality with regard to the business context. Even in this field there are various approaches possible. The GE Troubleshooter off-line analysis tool provides a very in-depth process modelling, analysis of process data depending on a specific batch, error detection, event simulation upon strictly predefined process parameter values. Metronik’s experts have the required skills and expertise in order to consult users in designing the process model and analysing it. With the aim of ongoing error detection and prevention the designed model can be used in process control systems thus providing a process management expert system which continuously detects and corrects any discrepancies from the defined values. In some cases continuous acquisition and detection of all events in the process, which affects product quality or the performance of continuous statistical processing of data regarding the individual batch are required. The events need to be regarded in the business context and have to be integrated into the traceability system.
